"Trick or Treating"
two bumble bees were spotted buzzing around our neighborhood last night. (and no, it wasn't any of the members of stryper.)
they were in search of sweets, like honey flavored candy. when waylen when up to a door, he would say to the person handing out candy, "TRICK OR TREATING". we, i mean they, got a lot of candy for looking so cute. i guess we all made out pretty good in the end. the best houses were the ones who passed out full size candy bars of course. not sure if shiloh really grasped the concept of being dressed up in a ridiculous costume, doing door to door with a basket in hand, and saying "trick or treating", but she played along.

Like Father, Like Son
so i did what every good father would do...
i introduced my son to the dukes of hazzard!!
for those who don't know, the dukes of hazzard is the best TV show of all time. i spend many evenings as a kid glued in front of the TV, watching my heroes, bo and luke escape from sheriff rosco p. coltrane. i was mesmerized by the general lee, their famous orange car with the 01 on the doors. cooter was my favorite. between bo and luke, i went with luke. while bo did most of the driving and sweet jumps, luke was always the smart one who was hatching the plans. growing up, i even wanted to live in hazzard county.
so you can imaging the bonding time i had sharing the dukes with waylen. he loves the show. if you ask him what bo and luke say, he responds with "yeeeeehaaaaaa!" he loves the general lee too. he loves to watch it "fly!" we watch it together. it's the best.

They sky is blinking
The other night we had a nice lighting and thunder storm. Well, this made for a bad sleeping night for Waylen....who cried every 5 minutes for what felt like 2 hours. He was scared of the lightning noises outside. We were constantly going back into his room. At first we asked him, "what's the matter?" He said, through the tears, that "the sky is blinking." We tried to explain to him that God made the lightning and thunder, and that this was a good thing. He wasn't convinced. We told him that God made the sky, the moon, the stars, AND the planets. Now planets, he liked. He really wants to see the planets, and asks about them everyday. Looks like a trip to the planetarium is coming up...

remembering the....snow
since we have all this beautiful weather now, we thought it would be nice to revisit a snowy day we had in february. we took the kids sledding for the first time at the famous hill in farmington. waylen loved it. "again, again!" he would say each time we reached the bottom. it was fun. a true winter day. think back and remember how glorious a "snow day" was when you were a kid. when we got back home we drank hot chocolate of course and sat by the heat vents! make sure to thank God for the spring next time you walk outside...
hey, does all of waylen's winter clothes and protective layers remind you of anyone else from a very famous christmas movie?

Stylin' in my new Lightning McQueen sunglasses!
Waylen's First Haircut
"So, Waylen, what are we gonna do today?"
"Not sure, since this is my first time getting a haircut. But I do like this blue cape that you put around me here. By the way, what do you recommend?"
"Well, I think a little boy's haircut might look nice on you. It might frame your cute face more."
"Ok, that sounds good. Just don't do anything crazy. Let's start with a #3. Just ignore my dad...I am NOT gonna get a mullet."
"Sure. Do you want me to keep the sideburns?"
"Yeah. Just shorten them up a bit. Hey, what are those big dome things on top of those ladies heads?"

Mmmm...Mmmm GOOD!!
Shiloh loves to eat! We started her on solid foods here and there at 5 months, she's now 6 months and still getting use to the feel of it in her mouth. So far she has had rice cereal, bananas and sweet potatoes. She LOVES sweet potatoes, but not to keen on the bananas.
Its amazing how different Waylen and Shiloh are. I can remember when we started Waylen on solids...seems like yesterday. Waylen caught on to the concept right away - food goes in and down the tube. Shiloh on the other hand - food goes in and comes right back out!! It takes double the time to feed her. But its so much fun.

more birthday celebrating
waylen's grandma diehr stopped by today to surprise him for his birthday! it was very sweet of her. she stopped by starbucks beforehand to get waylen his usual - a lemon loaf. even more candle blowing ensued. she got waylen addicted lemon loafs sometime last summer :) it's one of those things. soon, he'll be drinking the coffee. decaf, of course.
waylen is the big 2! look out. hard to believe the little guy arrived just 2 short years ago. proud to say he still hasn't got a haircut yet. i'm trying to go for the samson thing with him - we'll see how much longer colleen will tolerate it. at any rate, way just loves blowing out candles. all this week, we would say, "waylen, it's almost your birthday!!!" then he would make a blow noise with his mouth, blowing out an invisible candle. we celebrated this past weekend with some of our family.
i caught you smiling, shiloh!

Bathtime!!
waylen loves the bathtub. like my dad did with me, i get to educate him on all types of fish & sea creatures. for example, dolphins & sea turtles are gentle, and they swim right past waylen. they aren't looking for any trouble. however, you need to watch out for baby piranhas.. they bite, pinch and nibble!
